Clean brazing for refrigeration piping
A sound joint starts with tube preparation. Clean piping depends on both the surfaces where the filler flows and the inside of the circuit.
- Prepare the joint
- Protect the tube interior
- Apply filler
- Inspect and test
Prepare the surfaces and choose the filler
Keep tubing capped until assembly. Deburr and clean mating surfaces. Select filler metal and flux based on the base metals, joint and applicable procedure. At IceSquare, we use 30% silver filler for joints that specify it.
Distinguish gas flux from purging
The factory video shows brazing with Gasflux. The process carries flux vapor to the flame to help wet the joint when permitted by the procedure. A low flow of dry nitrogen through the tubing has a separate job: it displaces air and limits internal oxide scale during heating.
Protect components and verify the joint
Follow the manufacturer’s directions for protecting valves and heat-sensitive parts. Keep an outlet open for the purge gas and prevent flux from entering the circuit. After cooling, inspect the joint, remove external residue as specified and perform a leak test.
Guide for trained technicians. Follow the manufacturer’s procedure and limits for the refrigerant and equipment model being serviced.
